BRET PARKER
After receiving a PD diagnosis at 38,
Foundation Patient Council member Bret
Parker challenged himself to take on
extreme adventures, including a triathlon
and skydiving. His goal: to keep himself
active and help accelerate research.
Eleven years later, in January, Bret undertook
the World Marathon Challenge — a grueling
endeavor consisting of seven marathons, on
seven continents, in seven consecutive days.
He trained for a year, preparing to traverse
varied terrain in addition to managing PD
medications, tremors, rigidity and foot
cramps along the way. He completed the
seventh run in Miami in under eight hours
to the cheers of a crowd of Foundation
supporters, before making one last flight
home to New York.
Patient Council member Dave Iverson and Board
member Amar Kuchinad cheer on Bret as he runs his
seventh marathon.
