International Mindedness

International Mindedness is one of the characteristics that stand out in the International Baccalaureate curriculum, and in addition, it is essential in the philosophy of any school that includes the word international in its name. Verdala International School boasts this characteristic not only by including it as part of its name, but also in its syllabus. Concepts like these have a philosophical background and it seems difficult to verify that these characteristics are actually fulfilled.

Well, to the pleasant surprise of many and perhaps confirmation for others, the international mentality is strongly present and becomes alive in three central programs of the VIS Diploma Programme: Creativity, Action and Service (CAS), Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and Extended Essay (EE). Through CAS, our students discover

who they are as leaders in the community, in TOK they reflect on their role as critical thinkers of the world, and in EE, they identify their personality as researchers.

All this in order to create a better world that transcends the geographical frontiers situated in the great global village. If we stop to think about the concept of Mindedness, we could say that it is the habit of the mind in the way of being, and if we

think about International, we would find that it has to do with being empathetic about different cultures, different places, different human
