have had to be cancelled. It is a stressful time for everyone.

Which is why we have an extra-special focus on community and values, using this as a lens for many of our conversations, reflections, and activities. Our goal is to ensure that the challenges we are living through do not result in fracturing of our community and sense of who we are, but instead result in a stronger sense of identity, both individual and communal.

We all miss the gatherings. We have not seen our parents face-to-face in months, and there is a quietness to the campus even when students are present. But we have found ways to be together and to connect. Zoom assemblies have helped. The requirement of each year group to remain in their bubbles throughout the day, means that although they are apart from each other they are also together. For all their faults, social media apps have enabled students to connect with each other. We’ve continued with community service activities and projects as ways to celebrate our similarities and our differences. Our CAS programme continues strong.

Our focus for the year is helping us reflect on the important aspects of who we are as a community and of how we value each other. And hopefully, when all this goes away and we can once again gather together physically and socially, the learning from these experiences will be evident.

This year we are focusing on Community and Values in High School. The challenges we face with the physical and social distancing measures in place make it difficult to come together in groups of any size, and nearly all of the events that help pull our community together and create a sense of identity have had to be cancelled. It is a stressful time for everyone.

Which is why we have an extra-special focus on community and values, using this as a lens for many of our conversations, reflections, and activities. Whether it is thinking about the impact of bullying, reflecting on our curriculum content and exploring to what extent it is truly “international”, or looking for new and innovative ways to connect with each other, our goal is to ensure that the challenges we are living through do not result in fracturing of our community and sense of who we are, but instead result in a stronger sense of identity, both individual and communal.

We all miss the gatherings. We have not seen our parents face-to-face in months, and there is a quietness to the campus even when students are present. But we have found ways to be together and to connect. Zoom assemblies have helped. The requirement of each year group to remain in their bubbles throughout the day, within certain areas means that although they are apart from each other they are also together. For all their faults, social media apps have enabled students to connect with each other. We had our dress-up days, we’ve continued with community service activities and personal projects as ways to celebrate our similarities and our differences. Our CAS programme continues strong.

Our focus for the year is helping us reflect on the important aspects of who we are as a community and of how we value each other and engage with the world around us. And hopefully, when all this goes away and we can once again gather together physically and socially, the learning from these experiences will be evident.
