Head of School Message

Ms. Totty Aris - Head of School

Wishing all of our community a safe and healthy Summer !

The End of The Scholastic Year !

Firstly, thank you to the Fort team, all the contributors who compile our Verdala adventures into every edition, However, also a special thank you to Ms Anusuya Panchagatti, our departing editor who has worked on the Fort for nearly two years; ensuring every edition has a creative balance of academic, school-life and community.

I would also like to thank our departing Board Chair, Dr Sandro Spiteri.

Dr Spiteri has served the Board of Directors for 2 years and as a non-voting Chair made a real difference to the management of Board meetings, ensuring all stakeholders (Govt reps, parents and staff) had a voice and worked as constructive team for the benefit of the school our vision and 5 year strategic plan. Dr Spiteri was also a very active Board Chair, who supported School events, affably chatted with staff and students and maintained a progressive and positive interest in our internationally minded school. We wish him all the best in his next pathway.

Finally, gratitude and respect must be given to our teaching staff. Moving to Distance Learning was akin to climbing a mountain for our teachers, all of a sudden they had to work in a whole new environment and they were expected to be good at it! Never has the phrase “fail better” been more appropriate – as they have learnt through mistakes, (“you are on mute”), trials and practice of what works and doesn’t work in a Distance Learning environment. They have climbed the mountain, step by step, sometimes 3 steps forwards and one step catching one’s breath. Thank you Teachers, for your commitment, diligence and care for our students, so that their education could continue as best as possible.

A School without students is just an empty building with memories of voices, laughter and learning. In all our heart and souls we look forward to being together again in September, possibly under adaptive conditions, nevertheless a Verdala family, back together again.

As we near the end of the scholastic year and our final Fort magazine of 2019-20 I would like to take this opportunity to say some special words of thanks.
