SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS

Sports Week

Two weeks preparation and VIS was ready and eager for sports week with over four hundred activities logged before the week, the Houses were neck and neck going into the week which would only add to the spirit of the week.

Throughout the week lessons were filled with excitement and contagious enthusiasm and I finished every Zoom with such positive energy, something which is the closest yet to being in school since the outbreak of Covid-19. The willingness of students to be involved and the effort put in was remarkable and there are a few stand out moments which I will remember for many years to come.

There were some exceptional performances across the week and one lesson will forever live in my memory. Grade 6 raised the bar, we had lots of parents, brothers and sisters involved which added to the special atmosphere. In addition to this, the effort was exceptional. We finished with a sit-up challenge where ten or more students achieved 500+ sit-ups without stopping and everyone surpassed their expectations.

This theme continued throughout the week I was receiving regular emails from parents and getting a chance to see all the amazing activity that VIS students were taking part in. For anyone who got soaked in the storm a particular mention to the Mindkick family who got soaked whilst out getting points for the wind team. Well done!

The PE team also hosted the G11s in their STUCO time, and this lit the fire for many of them especially as at this point of the week wind were firmly in the lead which only gave many of our older students more motivation to go out and be active.

I have been overwhelmed, by the number of responses for each house by the Thursday morning we hit 1000 activities logged, which is an incredible number and thanks to all the parents and students who have filled my inbox with pictures and videos of your activities it has been wonderful to see. A special mention to the most active of all the community -

We aimed to host a competition that would encourage students and families to be active and to reward them for it. We also were hoped to develop a real atmosphere and excitement in lesson time as for many of us sitting in front of the screen all day can be very demoralising. As you will see from the photos I think we achieved this and for the most part, it was a very positive experience that hopefully, we can build and reflect upon and enhance for the future. Although one team will come out victorious on the scoreboard the real aim was to encourage activity for all the family in what is a challenging time and I think we have done this and it is because of the willingness of the VIS community it was possible. Thank you!
