Mindfulness Club in Middle School

“The art of giving a break to your mind”

The mindfulness lunch club in MS was launched in September 2019. It has been one of my dreams coming true as I fully believe mindfulness gives everybody the chance to slow down and focus on the “here and now”. Last year I completed my Mindfulness Accreditation and it was the right time to start this new venture which I have really enjoyed.

Since I joined the school 3 years ago I have been implementing some mindfulness practices in my French and Spanish lessons both in MS and HS, mainly to guide students to connect to the present moment through breathing techniques and body scan as well as a variety of exercises. More and more scientific studies in the world are backing up the fact that mindfulness helps students to focus much more and to lower down their levels of anxiety.

The best thing about mindfulness is that these are lifelong learning tools that they can use at any time at school and in their personal lives now and in the future. It has been nice to see how some students have been sharing them with their relatives and friends.

From the beginning of the school closure due to covid-19 I have published in the school bulletin both in MS and HS a mindfulness practice on a daily basis. Some tutors have used them in their homeroom time as a starter for the day and I am really glad they have found it useful.
