The Arts ...from a distance

HIGH SCHOOL

Ms Daphne Said - Art Department

How can we teach in this way? What about the materials the students need? But all the equipment we use? How can I show what I mean? What? How? But? … on and on went all of these questions in our heads as Arts teachers. For us being with the students, in the same space, exploring ways of creating ART together is key. We show, give ideas, use our physicality to express so many different emotions, grab a pencil to show what we mean by soft strokes, or shading, point to the notes on the keyboard and listen to students coming up with impromptu tunes on the ukelele and suddenly, we were forced to do all this through a screen.

But we did, the students all rose to the occasion and took on every challenge we gave them and before we knew it all middle school and high school students dived right into the ARTS and started creating some fantastic work. We launched a number of projects in all areas and the versatility and enthusiasm of our students brought some much needed creativity back into our lives. We even managed to launch a Talent show & create the Prom wall in Middle School, submit all the IB practical work for Theatre & Drama, host virtual Art exhibitions and invite an audience into a student’s home to watch their Solo Performance.

We do hope that at the end of this we will be able to share some of the fantastic work that everyone has produced so until then we have some images to whet your appetite!
