When Distance Learning started we, the students and teachers, were all overwhelmed by the changes in learning and teaching methods and the changes in our daily routines. The first challenges we underwent were learning to adapt to Distance Learning, finding ways to entertain ourselves and our family members and finding something to replace the feeling of interconnectedness that came from our social interactions at school.

As HS STUCO President, my tip for all of the students, parents and staff members is to try to find your own personal peace within this chaos. It is important that during this time at home we focus on our physical and mental wellbeing and do not overthink and worry about the things that are out of our control, even though it is easier said than done. I urge you to do all the things you made excuses for before social distancing. Read that book that you always wanted to read, experiment your cooking and baking, spend time with your loved ones, explore your talents and passions by letting your creative juices flow. Most importantly, take care of yourself.

During this stressful time at home we, the HS STUCO Executive Team, have been creating opportunities to keep our school community connected and provide the students with support and a voice. We have, on many occasions, spoken to the Head of School and HS Principal regarding our opinions on Distance Learning so far, and this has been effective in bringing out a change in order to benefit the students with respect to the ongoing change and stress in our lives right now. It has been challenging for the STUCO Executive Team to adapt to this new way of school life and we have therefore had to brainstorm and discuss together about activities and events that can be done under these circumstances to help the students take a break from school work and connect with the rest of the school community.

On the 3rd of April there was a Zoom Pet Day for all of High School and it turned out to be a very pleasant moment in which everyone was able to show off their pets. In addition, we worked very hard in creating our new VIS HS STUCO Instagram account. We believed that this would be beneficial to us as it would help us communicate with the students more efficiently regarding the weekly challenges we will start, activities to socialise or take a break and any other important or useful information that they usually easily miss out on.

On behalf of all the HS VIS students, we would like to thank all of the teachers and staff members that have been tirelessly adapting to Distance Learning and ensuring that we, the students, get the most out of this situation.
