November 2018 - January 2019 Welcome to 2019! Tis the season of new books! New books in the library In these cold times the best (and sometimes only) thing to do is to curl up with a good book, preferably with an accompaniment of a hot drink, a roaring fire and a cat (or dog) on one's lap. Both the Secondary School and the Elementary libraries have received new titles (a selection of which I have included) so feel free to come and visit us and browse and borrow to your heart's content. And if you do not find anything to soothe your reading cravings, please do ask the librarians and myself - the humble assistant - for recommendations. Believe it or not, we read a lot of books! Over Christmas I have read ‘The Word is Murder’ by Anthony Horowitz, ‘Playlist for a broken heart’ by Cathy Hopkins, ‘Mr Mercedes’ by Stephen King and ‘Junk’ by Anthony Burgess…..all if which I would heartily recommend. Lots of new books have been published over the Christmas season…..ranging from The Ice Monster by David Walliams to Death in the Spotlight by Robin Stevens (the latest in the ‘Murder most Unladylike’ series) to A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. All these titles will shortly be available in the Secondary School Library. And if this cold weather is getting you down, never fear! Warmer weather will soon be with us and then we can continue our reading in the sun. Happy reading! Your friendly library assistant Miss Anita Book 1 in the series This novel is a coming of age story like no other…..Malcolm Polstead's Oxford life has been one of routine, ordinary even. He is happiest playing with his daemon, Asta, in their canoe, La Belle Sauvage. But now as the rain builds, the world around Malcolm and Asta it seems is set to become increasingly far from ordinary. Finding himself linked to a baby by the name of Lyra Belacqua, Malcolm is forced to undertake the challenge of his life and to make a dangerous journey that will change him and Lyra for ever . . . That summer, life had seemed perfect for Bobby Burns. But now it's autumn and the winds of change are blowing hard. Bobby's dad is mysteriously ill. His new school is a cold and cruel place. And worse: nuclear war may be about to start. But Bobby has a wonder-working friend called Ailsa Spink. And he's found the fire-eater, a devil called McNulty. What can they do together on Bobby's beach? Is it possible to work miracles? Will they be able to transform the world?
