MIDDLE SCHOOL

English Language and literature

The English language and English department has been busy in middle school exploring language and literature through the big ideas in the units on identity, relationships and structures. In grade 6 the students have been exploring a wide range of poetry and having fun creating their own.

In grade 7 the focus was on exploring characters and the relationships between them through creative projects and the novels they are reading and in grade 8 the focus was on exploring the different types of identity from cultural to personal.

News From The English Department

Grade 6 Poets

As part of the IMYC big idea ‘structures’, Grade 6 is exploring poetry in English. We’re analyzing poetry from around the word and through the ages. Students are looking at language, identifying poetic devices and having a go at creating their own poems. A few of their favorites are haikus, soliloquies and sonnets. It has been an excellent and enjoyable opportunity to sharpen our speaking and listening skills with poetry presentations and performance poetry.
