Student Support Services Corner

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Ms. Corinne Borg -Head of Student Support Services

This first semester saw our team setting up a range of activities for our students as they gradually began the new school year.

Our team were very busy with providing counselling services to individual and small groups with regards to issues some of our students face. A new service this year also involved counsellors meeting new students to ensure that they are settling in nicely into VIS and building their circle of friends.

This year R U ok Day in September brought a different focus on mental health awareness where students were encouraged to reach out to anyone who they think is going through a hard time. This was recently emphasised further by the activities surrounding anti-bullying week. This year, VIS participated on a national level in collaboration with Bbrave, an NGO which raises awareness and supports anti-bullying approaches. Moreover, medical students from the University of Malta ran sessions with our Grade 8s on coping with anxiety and stress. All of these are being supported on a regular basis in the ES and MS PSHE classes.

Our school nurse has also been busy with running dental hygiene and handwashing sessions in both the ES and MS sections. In addition, personal hygiene classes will also be run in MS in the coming weeks.

We look forward to running more activities that will enhance our students’ wellbeing. If you would like to find out more, drop by to talk with one of the team.
