Verdala International School has been my home for the past five years. During this time I have grown so much, personally and professionally, thanks to the support of the amazing group of teachers and students I had the pleasure to meet and work with. Thanks to VIS, I was able to become the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program Coordinator in 2015 which contributed to the development of my skills in educational leadership. I am very thankful for this opportunity as it allowed me to work with a dedicated and committed team of teachers who have always supported my role. For the past five years, I also had the pleasure of meeting wonderful people who I now consider part of my family.
I am very proud of the accomplishments we have achieved in the Diploma Program during this time. We included two new subjects, Economics and Environmental Systems and Societies. We also were able to create the roles of an Extended Essay Coordinator and a Theory of Knowledge Coordinator who have been key to the progress of the IB DP Core. Finally, we went under the 5-Year Evaluation Process which allowed us to revise and reflect on our standards and practices and the school policies. We were very pleased with the result of this evaluation and the report we received from the International Baccalaureate Organization. This, along with our recent exam results, were the best indicators that demonstrated the outstanding work we have done in the Diploma Program at VIS.
I can definitely say that one of the most memorable memories I will take with me from VIS is the great community of students I had the pleasure to teach during these past five years. The kindness and respect they have always showed me, inside and outside the classroom, is what will make it so difficult for me to leave this school. Even though we will be teaching in a different environment and in a different community, it is good to know that we have a small place in Malta where we will always be welcomed. I can only say, thanks Verdala! It has been a great journey!
