Students are more engaged when they are creating a meaningful project about something that they are passionate about. As they learned the principles of coding, Grade 7 students worked hard on creating educational math games for the elementary Grade 2S and 3 students. They did a lot of research on their skills and tried to make it as fun as possible. We invited them to the Middle School Computer Lab to test the games and give feedback to the programmers of these games. It was an amazing experience to get the feedback directly from the selected audience and in return Grade 7's explained how they created their games with an introduction to coding in Scratch.

Here are some letters from the Grade 2 S's reflecting on their coding trip to Grade 7

Do you want to know about our visit to Grade 7? If so, do not despair. I will tell you all about it. The teacher who invited us was Ms Ufuk. In the Grade 7 classroom there were computers with math games. I played with Rebekah and Phoebe. The math games were easy. I also played a scratch game. When I played, I felt like I was in a dream because it was so, so, so amazing, I loved it!

Did you ever play scratch? We went to the grade 7 and my sister Tan was there. I was playing scratch with the computers. I told the computer what to do. I think that the maths problems were a bit hard.

I liked the maths games, especially the second game, because it had some answers that we needed to figure out. Then I could try and make my own game. It was the best with the Grade 7s!

My trip to grade 7 was quite fun. We played a game called scratch and you have a character and it asks you a subtraction problem like 13 - 4 and you type in the answer. There are ten levels and once you’ve done a few levels it asks you for plus problems. I loved that trip. It was the best day ever.
