This scholastic year the Student Support Services [SSS] Department embarked on a pilot project which involved rolling out an aligned curriculum through Kindergarten to Grade 8. The programme of study adopted was the UK’s PSHE association. The programme aims to enhance skills in students such as resiliency, self-confidence, critical thinking and other attributes that prepare our students to face the outer world beyond school. The PSHE programme of study works around three main themes, these being:

-Health and wellbeing

-Relationships

-Living in the wider world.

This latter component also involves aspects of career education with our aim being to integrate career awareness as early as Middle School. The PSHE curriculum has also been a great asset when tackling sensitive issues with our students, with a particular emphasis on addressing such issues in a safe learning environment.

At this last leg of the scholastic year, the SSS department is eager to now provide PSHE education to our VIS students in the coming years in both elementary and middle school. Whereas in high school we now aim, together with secondary teachers, to increase pastoral time with our Grade 9-10 students particularly extending PSHE related themes within homeroom time.
