INTERNATIONAL STORYTELLING IN MIDDLE SCHOOL

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Ms. Myriam Iglesias Deligny - Spanish and French Teacher

|31|

As part of the Whole School Project Group we developed the idea that was firstly conceived and started last academic year in Elementary School. This year it happened again in Elementary School and it was launched for the first time in Middle School with a lot of success.

This activity took place on 2nd May in Middle School during periods 6, 7 and 8. All Middle School students in each grade were divided in 3 groups and rotated 3 times to listen to 3 different stories from 3 different countries in the language of the country. It was an opportunity for them to listen to other languages and try to understand what the story was about. At the end there was a brief explanation/ summary of the story in English. Students enjoyed it and it made them aware of the amazing international environment we have in this multicultural community.

This was a whole community event, as the stories were told by mothers, Elementary and Secondary LSE’s and Secondary teachers form the Language Department. Thanks to the storytellers: Camilla, Clare, Kseniya, Alessandro, Lucienne and Hanny, as well as the support of the PE and Geography departments and MS Principal and her PA so this event could take place.

This activity was followed up during IMYC and the students shared what they learnt and also some stories from their own cultures. It was a reflective session on the way stories reflect cultural diversity.

Here are some extracts of the stories from this year:
