Maths Venture

The Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programmes, in collaboration with EcoGozo Regional Development Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo and Heritage Malta, organised the sixth edition of the Maths Venture. The Maths Venture consists of a Maths Trail which integrates History and Mathematics in a holistic manner. The event also provides an opportunity for students to experience mathematics outside the classroom. Verdala students have participated in this event every year. We send two of our top 8th Graders accompanied by one of our math teachers.

This year the Maths Venture was held at the Citadel, Victoria, Gozo on Tuesday, 30th April. Mrs Zammit went along with Maya Cohen and Nora Eckermann.

On Tuesday 30th April, Maya and I got the chance to go to the Math venture activity which this year happened in Gozo, Cittadella. We were put into a group with another school, which was a great experience, as we got to see what kind of things they learned in their school. Maya and I worked pretty well with the other two people from our group, although I do wish we would have cooperated more.

The math questions were fun and interesting as they combined them with historic places/things that were located in Cittadella. Some were challenging which made the math questions even more interesting to solve. It was a really nice and enjoyable experience, and I am really glad that I got the chance to be part of the Math Venture 2019.

Mathematics Circle

The Department of Mathematics within the Faculty of Science of the University of Malta has organized a Mathematics Circle. This will be spread over SEVEN sessions and is aimed at Year 11 (Form 5) students who have an interest and keen aptitude in Mathematics.

We had four Grade 10 students who attended these sessions: Dmytro Maksymchuk, Michael Samaha, Jack-Rory Steenkamer and Timofey Zavileyskiy

This year I had the honor of going and participating in the wonderful math treasure hunt in Gozo with my teammate Nora and my teacher Ms Zammit. This event taught me a lot of interesting things and showed me how to use my math skills in real life events and how it can help me solve and calculate many things. I also enjoyed meeting new people from different schools.

I really enjoyed it!

Thank you,

Maya Cohen
