On February 27th, 2017, Verdala International School was identified as being at the point in the 5-year cycle of evaluation by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). This 5-year evaluation process was a great opportunity for the school to reflect and assess its standards and practices as an IB World School. This process also served as a catalyst for the school's improvement of its whole school policies. The 5-year self-study evaluation is seen as part of the school culture and future development, as well as a chance to identify the school strengths and weaknesses. It also allows the involvement of different stakeholders (teachers, administrators, coordinators, parents and students) in order to gain multiple perspectives of the Diploma Programme. One of its goals is to support the school’s effort to continually improve the delivery of its Diploma Programme whilst improving its approaches to teaching and learning.

On January 2nd, 2019, VIS

received the below email from

Alan Wrafter, our school consultant

in the IB Organization, based on

our 5-year self study evaluation:

Dear Mrs Aris, Mr Miles and Mr Diaz,

I hope that this email reaches you and your community well, and that 2019 will bring you all much success and good fortune. Through this email I am delighted to share the attached evaluation report with you and your community.

Allow me to start with thanking you and your community for the commitment to a thorough self-study process and the thoughtful presentation of your results. Your commitment has been evident when reviewing your school’s documents. I realise how much work this means and hope that the process of the self-study has already generated insights that have made the work worthwhile.

As you can see from the report, a number of areas of programme implementation were identified as particular strengths in the evaluation report. Examples of these areas include:

●A strong school mission and philosophy which drives the development of the school community.

●Teaching strategies which promote the development of students’ inquiry and critical thinking skills.

●Differentiated approaches to classroom instruction to ensure that the needs of all learners are being met.

We encourage you to share such good practice with the IB community.

You will also see a number of recommendations throughout the report; for these, the school is expected to incorporate the recommendations into its action plan for the next five-year programme evaluation cycle.

Once again, we would like to congratulate you on the strong programme implementation that was evident in your self-study. We look forward to supporting you in the future.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any question or would like to discuss any of the opportunities mentioned above further.

Kind regards,

Alan Wrafter
