On the week of September 24-28, Verdala International School participated in The European Week of Sport. This involved a variety of activities happening on campus every day during the week.

Each morning saw Mr. Michael, Ms. Galya, Mr. Sean and Ms. Ward lead ‘Morning Movement to Music’ where students, staff and parents were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of exercises, dances and stretching. This was a great start to the day and ensured everyone was alert and enthused in the mornings. It also ensured ‘Baby Shark’ was stuck in our head for weeks after! This initiative is being continued every Friday morning from 8:10am and all are welcome and encouraged to join.

Each lunchtime saw different activities taking place across campus, organised and supervised by teachers and the Global Issues Club. These activities included Dodgeball, Gaelic Football, Oriental Dance, Soccer, Basketball, Throwing and Catching, Bowling, Yoga, Skipping, Crossfit and many, many more. The school community engaged brilliantly with these activities and many learned new skills during the week.

The culmination of the week was on Friday, 28th when Verdala took part in the European School Sports Day. This event saw Elementary, Middle School and High School take part in different activities for two periods of the day. For Elementary, this involved dance and exercise to music as well as an assembly about the reasons for and the importance of exercise. For secondary, it involved moving through three stations including activities such as running, bootcamp, soccer and volleyball. This meant that all students and many members of staff were active, tried new activities and enjoyed each others' company for the day.

The whole week was a wonderful community event and showed the power of physical activity to bring people together, reduce stress and increase energy levels. It is hoped that this positive attitude towards physical activity will be continued in the future in the school community.
