Finally we’d like to introduce our new music teacher Ms Laryea, so we’ve asked some students to interview her!

What’s your favourite instrument to play and teach?

I love playing the piano and singing, this is what I do to relax. My favourite instrument to teach is probably the Ukulele or the Djembe.

What do you like to do in your freetime?

I like spending time with my young family and swimming in the ocean.

If you could tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

Don’t sweat the small stuff!

What are some of your past jobs?

I’ve been a Nanny, Bartender and a PA.

How is teaching at Verdala different to teaching at other schools?

As Verdala is an International School, I would have to say the large mix of nationalities.

Favourite/ Inspirational quote?

“If you fail, never give up, because fail means first attempt in learning”.

Favourite type of music?

Soul and Folk Music.

How long have you been interested in music?

All my life. My Grandma started taking me to watch the ballet at a very young age, which I loved and I started playing the piano at the age of 4.

Fun fact about you?

I love baking!

Ms Laryea has been so impressed at how the Middle School students have fully embraced the learning of our new set of Ukulele’s! Being faced with a musical instrument and told you are going to learn it can be a daunting thing, but they have approached this task in an impressive way and have come out the other end having really enjoyed themselves. I’m looking forward to starting our new units of work after the mid-term break.

We’re all happy to see so many excited individuals who are really participating in our lessons and taking on any challenge put to them.
