The ASA Drama Club is also working on a production called ‘After Hours’ which they will perform to an audience this coming January. There are still some places available if you’d like to join that club and be part of a performance that will see mannequins coming to life and burglars losing control.

The Grade 8 Drama students are collaborating with Kinder and the Grade 3 students as they prepare a Forum Theatre performance directed at this young audience, and for the only time this year the Grade 6 Drama classroom is quite silent as they are studying Mime! They’ve presented some interesting research about silent movies and Charlie Chaplin and now they are busy working on their own mime performance which will be entertaining to watch.

In Grade 7 the students are being challenged with a specific style of performance as they learn how to use masks. Physicality and gestures are key as they cannot rely on their facial expressions to communicate their ideas to their audience. It is great to walk by on school grounds and stop to enjoy such performances.

In High School Drama, students will kick off the year with the spookiest event on the VIS calendar - The Tunnel of Terror! As a collaborative effort between the Grade 11 and 12 IB Theatre students, they will come up with a theme and direct the Grade 9 & 10 students to get involved in creating mood and atmosphere through music, lights, sounds and performance skills.

As soon as the door to the Tunnel of Terror is shut for this year, the HS Drama students will start focusing on the HS play. This year, they will be applying the knowledge they have learnt in class through the performance of a play about THE LIFE OF GALILEO by Brecht. This promises to be a new experience for both the actors and audience alike, as this theatre requires the audience to take part in the action itself, as Brecht wanted.
