The Football Pink Volume 1 | Page 5

Introduction If you’re reading this, then you have chosen to buy or borrow the first issue of The Football Pink magazine. And for that we’d like to sincerely thank you for making the commitment to doing so. There are so many alternatives for you to spend your hard earned money on, especially in the world of sports literature, so we really are grateful for the support. What we hope to bring you is a collection of articles from some excellent writers who have been hand-picked because of their ability to relay engrossing football stories in their own inimitable style. Huge thanks to all of the contributors for your commitment to the project, especially to Ally Moncrieff for all of your advice when I didn’t have a bloody clue how to get things started! Due to my own limitations in design and computer skills this isn’t a glossy or artistic production and probably never will be, but what we won’t lack for is quality content with plenty to get your teeth into and lose yourself in. The Football Pink has no niche as yet, which may or may not be a good thing. Issue 1 also has no specific theme or constant thread, which also may be a mistake or a masterstroke. There is, however, a regular nod to the nostalgic and bias towards the history of the game, so maybe that will be our thing? I’m new to this so let’s see how it all pans out. If I make a pig’s ear of it then I’ve got nobody to blame but myself. The one thing that was stipulated in the brief to the writers was to give us their best work and to give us something different, and I genuinely believe they have done that. We can all go on the internet and find a million articles on the same old drudge about how great Manchester United are, Chelsea’s striking issues or Arsenal’s lack of trophies. Our aim is to give you an eclectic mix of football related stories from a different perspective. The Football Pink’s first edition features everything from John Beck to Albert Camus, covering depression and delirium whilst stopping off at places as diverse as Leipzig and Liverpool (well the geographical outskirts) along the way. I’m not going to drone on any longer, so please let me thank you once again for reading The Football Pink. Your interest really is greatly appreciated and we hope that you find this first issue good enough to stick with us for our future editions. So please, get reading and enjoy! And don’t forget to spread the word. MARK GODFREY
