Articles Fountains Hall Redevelopment rooms; these are in regular use throughout the day and their number will be increased using the former stage space. One of the new rooms would be suitable for use as a green room during performances; the other being on the same level as the Main Hall, will allow one of the grand pianos to be easily moved into and out of the Hall for performances if required. - Include a multimedia studio; this is replacing the current out of use kitchen and will also be available as a further music practice room. - Include an Arts Studio; the College has a thriving Arts Society, and finding a space for arts and crafts has been a priority for some time. - Improve sanitary provision; the current office is not in regular use and given the importance of disabled access, this will be converted into a disabled toilet and shower, with a further increase in the current toilet provision for performances. - Leave the chapel untouched; this is currently an excellent venue for concerts and rehearsals by choirs and small ensembles, and is fully licensed by the Church of England as a place of worship, and it has been used for baptisms, weddings and funerals. However, it is also open as quiet space to members of all faiths and none. Alumni and friends of the College can still provide support to this project through the College Trust, which will allow us to provide better and more high-specification internal facilities. In particular, people may wish to support the work through either: - The “buy a brick” scheme and have your name, with a brief commemoration, for example of an artistic group/production which took place whilst you were at Grey College, attached to a plaque on a wall for £150; - Have a room in the building named after you for £2,000 though there are necessarily only a limited number available. More detailed information about the Fountains Hall project and how to support it can be found on our website, or by contacting the Vice-Master at g.p.swift@ durham.ac.uk. The main hall in particular will be a much improved space, with a greater capacity and greater flexibility as these artist’s drawings show 13
