42 Thomas Payne was not affordable in the final instance. This took away from the scheme’s exotica. See pp. iv–v for the artist’s rendering of the proposed façade, which includes the domed library. Nevertheless, the core spaces were protected and the life of the Fields Institute at the University of Toronto began. And finally, as an architect I have been privileged to work with great purpose together with the academics and administrators of a few of the great universities. These experiences profoundly shape our lives. Working together with Bill Shadwick and the entire Fields Institute team was an honour that I cherish to this day.
