They both agree that its essentially the love for surfing that pushed them to improve their fitness levels to improve performance . This led them to work at a gym where they met and share their philosophies on training . Thus , was born “ The Fitness Shack ”. Next door to the very gym they first met within . Feral : How do you keep your fitness knowledge up to date ?
Andre : There is a LOT of fitness information out there . Some good , some bad , and some just plain horrible ! Ask three people the same fitness question , and you are likely to get three different answers . That is why we like to put all fitness information to the test . We regularly use our clients as Guinea pigs ( just kidding )! No , we apply our knowledge to ourselves , and if we get the desired outcome , then , and only then , do we accept it as fact .

Simone : The Fitness Industry is constantly evolving ! Its so important to READ a lot ! I subscribe to news letters and updates on fitness seminars ! I read textbooks on sports nutrition and regularly discuss new concepts with others in the industry . Honestly we learn something new everyday in our line of work !

Feral : How does Calisthenics help improve your surfing ?
Simone : Surfers need strong cores for maneuverability and to protect their back and neck from that constant pressure we put it under when popping up on our boards or duck diving or just wave scouting . Calisthenics has a massive core focus ! Calisthenics also builds incredibly strong shoulders , triceps , deltoids , biceps , chest , erector spinae and lats all integral to that power stroke you need to paddle into big surf .
