FARM BUSINESS CONFERENCE All farming businesses are individual and as such each has different potential prospects. The aim of this farm business conference, organised by H&H Land and Property and to take place at Buckabank Farm, Dalston, Carlisle on Tuesday 4th July, is to explore the variety of opportunities that farmers could consider in order to future proof their businesses. Throughout the day industry professionals will be looking to the future in terms of farming practices and managing assets and property. This does not just include traditional methods, but other alternative ways you can enhance output and increase revenue. This is demonstrated by the Brough family at Buckabank Farm where the event will be hosted, who has invested in a robotic milking system allowing them to increase milking herd size from 180 cows to 320. The system incorporates all year round 90 Summer 2017 www.farmers-mart.co.uk calving, and also a fully housed system which has allowed the farm to fully utilise land for forage and cereal production. Heading up the conference is H&H Land and Property Senior Farm Business Management Consultant, Nick Prince who possesses extensive experience, both hands on and academic, of farming and rural issues. Throughout the day there will be a series of seminars and debates covering a range of key industry topics, including: the financial realities of farming, making the most of planning opportunities and developing a farm business. Breakout sessions will also offer attendees the chance to explore in small groups the development of a farm business, marketing lamb, current animal health issues and developing a dairy enterprise. Nick commented: “UK farm businesses are certainly facing an interesting and challenging time and do need to look at their farm business in detail to ensure that they are maximising all possible opportunities. In hosting this event with carefully chosen partners our aim is to provide farmers with practical examples and open discussion to help them review their businesses.” For further details and an application form for tickets email denise.munro@ hhland.co.uk
