He checks in and rides about the farm and looks after the calving programme and chart in the farm office. He came here from Dacre and before that South Stainley. Our grandfather William started the ball rolling with an egg round. Dad farmed in partnership with his brother Fred, who was on another farm, until 2000.’ Richard studied at Newcastle Univer- sity and William went to Askham Bryan College for a year before returning to join his brother and father. The farm current- ly runs to just over 800 acres split be- tween owned, rented, contract farmed and farm business tenancy. K COARS ARE PLEASED TO SUPPLY WILLIAM HOUSEMAN OF INGERTHORPE MOOR FARM AND WISH HIM AND HIS TEAM CONTINUED SUCCESS FOR THE FUTURE! Leeming Bar Ind. Estate, Leeming Bar, Northallerton, DL7 9UL www.coars.co.uk | Tel 01677 424727 William is the current chairman of Nidderdale Show and reports on another fabulous day. ‘Dad asked me to go on the committee in my 20s. I’ve stewarded, helped and am now chairman. I’m the third generation to have taken some form of office at the show as my grandfather was president and chairman and dad has been president. It’s one of the finest shows in the country and a real agricultural show as everyone knows. The stock competitions attract fabulous entries and we have a great committee. We are also very fortunate to have Sue Monk as secretary who does a grand job. We’re desperate for new blood on the committee though, so if anyone would like to join us let me know.’ The brothers were also very involved with the young farmers movement. ‘I was chairman of Winksley-cum-Grant- ley YFC and chairman of Harrogate District. Richard was club chairman too and went on to be involved a county level as did our sister Liz. My Uncle Willie Houseman was an inspiration to all of us whether through family or young farmers and is still sadly missed. He always had time for every- body.’ William is married to Sue and they have a daughter Frances who is studying Rural Estate Land Management at Harper Adams and two sons Oliver who has just started at Harper and Henry who is just embarking on an agricultural engineering course at Askham Bryan College. Richard is married to Marjory and they have two sons John now in his second year at Harper and James who is in the sixth form a school.
