Wishing Jane & David Turnbull continued success for the future. K Farmers Mart - Turnbulls.qxp_Layout 1 08/06/2018 08:21 Page 1 Potatoes are an important crop for David and the Turnbulls growsed potatoes for Dutch company HZPC, presently growing Taurus and several other varieties that will ultimately end up with McCain’s. Their ware crop is a combination of Estima and Sap- phire that goes into Ibbotson’s near York and will retail as prepack in supermarkets. Precision farming plays its part in the farming enterprise using RTK autosteer on their New Holland tractors and John Deere combines. ‘We also have a biomass boiler that is run on oilseed straw grown on the farm. It heats everything here at the farm including the holiday accommodation and farmhouse. We no longer need to buy oil for heating.’ David, Andy and their sons run a home shoot for eight days each year shooting pheasants reared on the farm. It was through the YFC movement that Jane and David first knew each other. Jane was a member of Lower Wensleydale YFC and David was with Reeth YFC. ‘It’s a fabulous organisation and our son Ben (26) is in Reeth YFC along with his girlfriend Charlotte. We also have an elder daughter Kathryn who is currently in Copenhagen. Andy is married to Sharon and they have two sons Will and Matthew. Will and Ben both work with their fathers on the farm.’ ‘Sharon and I are having such a laugh as we’ve taken up tap dancing, being taught by Charlotte who danced professionally and teaches tap, modern and ballet.’ ‘ Growing up on a farm I’ve always known everyone has to muck in and that’s what I still do today. I enjoy providing lovely B&B accommodation and looking after our visitors and it is nice to receive awards such as the one from the AA ’ Jane studied for a degree in ceramics a Loughborough and enjoys pottery, but it is her love of gardening that she intends to expand on this year as she wants to bring back her own vegetable produce. ‘Growing up on a farm I’ve always known everyone has to muck in and that’s what I still do today. I enjoy providing lovely B&B accommodation and looking after our visitors and it is nice to receive awards such as the one from the AA. Fairlie was one of the founding members of Farmstay UK and I’ve always been committed to the organisation and to making Whashton Springs a place where everyone wants to come back again and again.’ 01969 623 107 www.yoredalevets.co.uk l Proud to supply the Turnbulls at Washton Springs Farm ANIMAL FEEDS • SEEDS • FERTILISERS Compound Feeds Specialist Blends Minerals Milk Powders Blocks & Buckets Fertilisers Silage Additive Hardware ANIMAL HEALTH Wormers Vaccines Fly control SEED Forage seed Environmental Grassland herbicides Call us on 01765 689666 W.
