New Holland Dealer Of The Year 2018 The Dugglebys show their cattle and sheep starting at Lincolnshire and taking in the Great Yorkshire and Driffield. Their best yet with the Belties is champion in the other native class at Lincoln and second in class to the Royal Highland Show winner with Bertha at the Great Yorkshire in 2016. ‘We always had beef bulls on my dad’s farm at Cherry Burton,’ says Nicola. ‘I’m a Gray by birth. My brother farms there now and I have grown up with cattle and sheep. My granddad Eric Gray used to show pedigree Suffolks at the Great Yorkshire, Driffield and Malton. We’ve had a little break from showing for two years but we are going to ramp it up again this year with the Belties and our Oxford Downs.’ The couple have 30 Oxford Down breed- ing ewes that include some Texel X Oxford Downs purchased from Tom Boothman of Linton Hall. ‘The Oxford Downs are easy lambers,’ says Nicola. ‘The Texel influence gives a little more conformation to the lambs and they seem to get off the ground a little more quickly. Our crosses are probably now half Texel with 25 pedigree Oxford Downs. The crosses go as butchers’ lambs or through our online farm shop or in beef and lamb boxes and we sell pedigree stock to other breeders. One buyer who bought six shearling ewes took reserve champion at Driffield with one of them last year, so I was really chuffed. We lamb from December 1 and start sending fat lambs at Easter. The Oxford Down lamb is extremely tasty and they work very well off grass. We’ve won the breed championship at Driffield three times and reserve champion at the Great Yorkshire in the any other native class.
