Edward Gardner, Preston, Lancashire “You won’t find a roller baler that will make a bale as tight as the McHale. In ideal conditions, I can easily achieve 70 bales per hour.” Edward Gardner runs a 400 acre mixed arable and beef farm in Preston, while also providing a round baling contracting service in the area. Edward has been contracting since 2011 and he purchased a McHale F5500 Round Baler in 2013. Edward bales around 10,000 bales per year with his machine. Silage or haylage is the main crop Edward bales, with a little over 7,000 bales being produced by the McHale F5500. Edward also uses the F5500 for baling 1,500 bales of hay and 1,500 bales of straw each year. Edward has owned and used many makes of balers but told us, “It will eat all sorts of crop, you won’t find a roller baler that will make a bale as tight as the McHale. In ideal conditions, I can easily achieve 70 bales per hour.” Edward feeds all his beef cattle using a tub feeder so when baling his own grass he chops the bales with 15 knives to achieve a length of 65mm which he says “reduces the chopping time in the tub feeder.” Edward likes a number of features on the baler, “The machine is easy to maintain - you can go out and bale any crop and know it will perform. Also, I like the fact the netting system will take any type of net without giving any hassle. Overall, it’s very easy to use and the control box is user friendly.” CALL TODAY 1 Scotland & N.
