We need an all year round milk supply and so we calve in two periods of August to November and February to May. We run a Westfalia 16/32 put in during 2013. I did look at robotic milking machines but they just don’t fit with our milk processing needs. We also don’t grow our own crops for feed as we found it too expensive, but we have re- ally good relationships with organic arable farms.’ Sam, who is one of three sons the others being William and Joe, saw an opportunity with drinkable or pourable yogurt to build a fresh side to the farm business. ‘We had all this skimmed milk available from making clotted cream that I felt we had to make more yogurt and in a handier, more user friendly way of bottles. We be- gan rebranding as YORG two years ago and the bottles started in 2018. We’re currently selling less clotted cream as we lost our contract to supply Betty’s tearooms, but that has allowed us to balance production. Our YORG bottles are now in Fodder in Harrogate, several other farm shops and Morrisons Yorkshire stores in 250ml, 500ml bottles.’ ‘YORG won at this year’s Deliciously Yorkshire Taste Awards, Great Taste Awards and YORG original won at the Great York- shire Show’s Dairy Show. It includes healthy gut friendly bacteria like Yakult and Actimel but without the sweeteners and preserva- tives.’ Angus and Sue met through the YFC movement with Sue coming to Yorkshire from Penzance in 1990 to brief those going on an exchange to Canada. They married in 1992. Sam is a rugby union scrum half and a wicketkeeper in cricket, currently plying his trade with Stokesley. William is an avid Yorkshire CCC supporter and Joe is current- ly at university. ‘We have a wonderful team here,’ says Angus. ‘Adam and Joe work with us on the farm and Susan works in processing our cream and yogurts.
