CLA seeking to address farmers ’ Brexit concerns at LAMMA ‘ 17

THE CLA IS INVITING FARMERS AND landowners concerned by the implications of Brexit to discuss their issues with its advisors at LAMMA on 18 and 19 January 2017 .
Situated on Stand 754 in Hall 7 at the East of England Showground in Peterborough , the CLA ’ s team of advisors will be on hand to listen to people ’ s concerns and give them information about what the organisation is doing to safeguard their interests .
Through its New Opportunities campaign , the CLA is seeking support for four Brexit priorities : a world-leading Food , Farming and Environment Policy to replace Common Agricultural Policy ; food exports to be prioritised in all Brexit and trade negotiations ; red tape to be cut for business ; and for rural businesses to retain access to the labour they require when Britain leaves the EU .
CLA East Regional Director Ben Underwood said : “ Understandably , Brexit is currently the number one concern for farmers and landowners – they are anxious about what this means for them , their land , and their businesses .
“ Exiting the European Union will lead to the single biggest change in the way businesses are organised and run across the British countryside for generations , but we are optimistic and see the significant potential to do things better .
“ We are confident in the ability of our farmers and rural businesses to thrive outside the EU , but there has to be a framework in place that allows them to do this .
“ Our New Opportunities campaign puts forward the four key Brexit issues we believe the Government needs to address in order secure the future prosperity of the countryside . It would be great if visitors to the stand could give us their thoughts and feelings regarding the future of agriculture , and tell us what they need from the forthcoming negotiations by completing our survey .”
‘ there has to be a framework in place ’
Those who take part in the organisation ’ s Brexit opinion survey will be entered into a cash prize draw .
Visitors to LAMMA also have an open invite to an informal networking event being held on the CLA ’ s stand on Wednesday 18 January at 2.30pm . Refreshments will be available , with CLA advisers on hand to answer rural business questions .
