long. “It’s all a question of team work and
strong leadership” Martyn said. “Colin
and I involve everyone in the business
and empower people as much as possi-
ble but everyone knows we are the go to
guys if there is a problem. MD Ken Conley
leaves the day to day running to Martyn
and Colin. The three of them look after the
long-term strategy and plans, with involve-
ment from the Rickerby family in the form
of Paddy Rickerby who still enjoys being
involved.
All staff are fully trained and updated on
the areas of the business they work in and
the product/machinery they sell/maintain
etc. Martyn said that 90% of their franchises
are also family business’s which he feels
really helps on the service and support
side. Two of the longest standing franchis-
es are Bailey trailers and Bunnings where
involvement with the families that run them
has proved invaluable.
Martyn is without doubt the public face
and energy of Rickerby. He and Colin really
inspire the ‘Want it yesterday’ attitude with
the staff which in turn leads to great custom-
er satisfaction. “It’s all about working hard
and playing hard. We all like to have some
fun as well as work hard” Martyn said.
One thing that has aided the longevity of
the business is that each current manage-
ment team is always looking to groom and
or recruit their successors. This year has got
off to a very positive start as Rickerby are
celebrating 100 Years history of the CLAAS
tractor and to coincide with this there are
several long awaited new tractor models
with a variety of engine sizes with the oppor-
tunity of personalising both cab’s and colour
schemes. Both Rickerby staff and customers
are really excited with the new models and
really feel CLAAS have got it right. The all
new Scorpion Shovel from CLAAS has really
taken people by surprise and is an excellent
piece of machinery. Combines and Foragers
have also got off to a strong start for 2018.
