Summer Nature Day Camps Registration for our 2018 Summer Nature Day Camps at McCloud Nature Park is now open! Advance registration is required at HendricksCountyParks.org. Many of our camps fill up quickly so don’t delay! WEATHER HOTLINE (317) 718-6111 LIL’ EXPLORERS YOUNG ADVENTURERS Children ages 2 to 5 get a fun introduction to nature through the topics listed below. These programs are designed for the adult caretaker to interact with their child(ren) for a total family experience. Our Park Naturalists will lead activities that will inspire a lifelong appreciation for nature. These camps are for 6- to 12-year-olds who are ready to dig deeper into exploring nature. Young Adventurers should pack a well-marked sack lunch, water bottle, insect repellent, and sunscreen. Ages 2-5 (with adult) Tuesdays, 10 a.m.-noon Fee: $ 12 per camp (covers parent/guardian and child) June 12 – Drip! Drop! A water-themed camp that includes simple science experiments and a visit to Big Walnut Creek. June 19 – Forests, Prairies, Wetlands, Oh My! Learn about the plants and animals that live at McCloud Nature Park and take a short hike in each of the park’s diverse ecosystems. June 26 – I J Animals Get to know the various kinds of animals that visit or live at McCloud, visit the Bee House, and build a simple bird feeder to take home. July 10 – Weather Discovery Make rainbows, create clouds, produce rain, and discuss thunder and lightning. Build a weather catcher to take home. July 17 – A Sense of Adventure Pretend you’re an animal with a good sense of touch, smell, hearing, sight or taste. Discover how animals use their senses to survive in McCloud Nature Park. July 24 – Mud Soup Get messy! Help make mud soup and mud pies, paint with natural materials, create natural crafts, and play outdoor games. 18 • www.HendricksCountyParks.org Ages 6-12 (going into grades 1-7) Thursdays or Fridays, 10 a.m. – 2p.m. Fee: $25 per camp June 14 or 15 – Aqua Adventure Discover what lives in Big Walnut Creek, including aquatic insects and other animals. June 28 or 29 – Beast Masters Look for animals, build a shelter, and go on an adventure! Become an expert of all kinds of McCloud animals. July 12 or 13 – Sky Watch Learn about the various types of weather that affect Indiana. Simulate a tornado, identify types of clouds, and even play in the snow in the middle of summer! JUNIOR NATURALISTS Ages 8-14 (going into grades 3-9) Thursdays or Fridays, 10 a.m. – 2p.m. Fee: $25 per camp Junior Naturalist camps are for ages 8 through 14, targeting activities for older kids who possess more developed strength and endurance. Junior Naturalists should pack a well-marked sack lunch, water bottle, insect repellent, and sunscreen. June 21 or 22 – Who Lives Here? Hike through the various ecosystems of McCloud Nature Park in search of all kinds of living organisms.
