NATURE SCAVENGER HUNT Sunday, Sept. 29 McCloud Nature Park Can you spot all of the items on the nature scavenger hunt? Stop by the McCloud Nature Center anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to pick up a scavenger hunt list, and then return your completed list to the Nature Center before it closes at 4 p.m. and receive a small prize! APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES FREE TO ATTEND NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED ASTRONOMY Saturday, Sept. 15 • 8 p.m. McCloud Nature Park Beyond the realm of our solar system are some of the most spectacular objects you’ll ever see! Learn to identify and observe them in the deep night sky above McCloud Nature Park! The Indiana Astronomical Society will present a brief informational session, rain or shine, describing the celestial objects to be observed, followed by outdoor stargazing under clear skies only. Learn to use the powerful telescopes provided to share, or bring your own. APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES • FREE TO ATTEND NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED • APPROXIMATE PROGRAM DURATION: 2 HOURS SCOUT OVERNIGHTER FOR BOYS Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 6-7 McCloud Nature Park Grab your sleeping bag! We are allowing male scouts – Boy Scouts, Trail Life USA members, and male Navigators – and their chaperones a unique opportunity to pitch their tents and spend the night at McCloud Nature Park! Several campsites, each with its own campfire, will provide scouts with a temporary home to have fun with their troops. Scouts are welcome to participate in naturalist-led activities, and scout leaders are encouraged to lead their scouts in activities around the park. Bring something to cook for dinner, and we’ll provide s’mores and a continental breakfast! (See page 14 for more information.) For male scouts ONLY. All levels of male scouts are welcome. However, no tagalongs or non-scout children will be permitted. Chaperones must be either scout leaders or the legal guardians of attending scouts. FALL DIGITAL SCAVENGER HUNT AND CONTEST Saturday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Oct. 21 FAMILY CAMPOUT Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 22-23 McCloud Nature Park McCloud Nature Park, Sodalis Nature Park, and the Vandalia Trail between Amo and Hendricks/Putnam County Line Get a taste of the wilderness without traveling too far from home. For one night only, families can enjoy rustic overnight camping at McCloud Nature Park! Pack your tent, camping gear, sleeping bags, and something to cook over the fire for dinner, and we’ll provide a campsite (including campfire), s’mores, a continental breakfast, and 232 acres of natural wonders for your family to explore! (See page 14 for more information.) Showcase Hendricks County Parks by pointing out what you most enjoy about our properties! Using your phone or digital camera, snap pictures of items in our parks that are listed on our scavenger hunt list. Upload these pictures to our Facebook page, and then we’ll create a Facebook post with all of the submitted photos on Oct. 22. Voting will take place Oct. 22-28, and the photo with the most "likes" will win a prize! Winner will be announced on our Facebook page on Oct. 29.
