Kalamata is a wonderful city. It is situated in the south of Peloponnese and it is built next to the sea. It has some of the best beaches in Greece, an amazing view and also it is popular for its delicious food. That's why many tourists choose Kalamata for their summer destinations. Kalamata beach LOCATION and SURROUNDINGS POPULATION and CLIMATE by Kostas and Alex by Vassiliki, Andrew and Daniel There are about 70.000 people that live in Kalamata and almost 160.000 people that live in Messenia. Kalamata, 238 km southwest of Athens, is the capital and central port of Messenia, a prefecture in the south of Peloponnese which is a peninsula in Greece. It is situated at the site of ancient Farai. Around Kalamata there are sandy beaches, mountains with forests, cultivating land and archaeological monuments. The climate is mild. It is hot in summer and it often rains in winter but it rarely snows in our city.
