ISSUE N. 3
LIS HOUSE
Lis House is an urban mansion
which was built by order of Mr
Miguel de Lis, a hard-working
businessman owner of a tannery.
The façade is made of iron and
glass. It is an example of industrial
architecture used for residential
purposes.
Nowadays it is an Art Nouveau
Museum where marvellous
masterpieces are exhibited.
It is said that its famous colourful
windows shine at night because
fairies light them up.
THE CAVE OF SALAMANCA
This cave corresponds to what
became the crypt of the nonexistent church of St Cebrián.
According to the tradition, the
Devil gave classes of divination
and other dark arts to seven
students in this cave at night.
Once the course was finished the
worst of the seven would be at
the hands of the devil. The legend
says that the Marquis of Villena
was one of the most gifted
students of the Devil who
managed to escape alive but
without his shadow, which he lost
forever to the devil.
After reading all this information, what do you think of Salamanca? We hope you like it because we love
it and are looking forward to telling you more about other places around our city, our food, customs and
festivals. But this will be in another issue of The European Schools Newspaper!!
