I know that Linda brought many other gifts to OU and her students, but I just wanted to share my appreciation for this gift in particular. As our culture continues to fragment our lives and distract us from some of the most important aspects of our time here on the planet, we need people who understand the spirit of place. We need to pay attention to the earth we live on, to the neighbors and friends who share our communities. There are surprises and mysteries hidden in the lawns and woods not far from our houses, and in the hearts and minds of the people who breathe the same air and hear the same coyotes howling at night. Linda understood the tenderness and vulnerability of this kind of attention and connectedness to the world. She understood how easy it is to take it for granted. She helped remind us not to do so.
