Political Activity as a Sister

By Alicia Bustillos, National Communications Officer

We are living in trying times these days. The world can be a scary place and we all want to make a difference that will impact the world in a positive way.

By using the values of Unity, Honesty, Integrity and Leadership, KDChi can really make a difference in supporting change. But using KDChi values and using the KDChi name are two very different things. Please remember sisters that Kappa Delta Chi has as official Political Activity Policy that, as sisters of Kappa Delta Chi, we must adhere to.

Just a few highlights from the Political Activity Policy:

• Members must use their own personal time to work on political campaigns. Such activity shall not indicate a connection with Kappa Delta Chi (Organization), nor imply that the Organization is endorsing any particular candidate

• No member will endorse commercial products or processes, candidates for political office, etc., in a manner in which indicates a connection with Kappa Delta Chi or in any other way implies that such endorsement represents the Organization

• When attending a political event hosted in support of a political party or candidate, you must attend as private citizens. No association or paraphernalia of the Organization can be presented at such events

This doesn’t mean you can’t be involved! We encourage sisters to be involved in many different ways such as:

• Conduct voter registration and nonpartisan get-out-the-vote (“GOTV”) efforts that are designed to educate the public about the importance of voting

• Work with nonprofits targeting areas in nonpartisan ways. For instance, low-turnout areas, low-income populations, minority populations and/or students

• Educate the public on issues and encourage participation in the political process.

• Conduct or participate in a nonpartisan candidate forum. The forum must be open to all candidates, be run in a balanced way, and include a broad range of nonpartisan questions for the candidates.

• Work on behalf of a ballot measure

These are only just a few guidelines we as Kappa Delta Chi have set forth to follow. To read the whole policy please log into your memberclicks profile to access. And if you don’t know your memberclicks log it email [email protected]. If you have any questions on this policy please email [email protected].
