I hope to create an atmosphere of calm and encourage viewers of my paintings to place themselves in to their own place of peace."

You can find Ellen’s paintings on sale at Lotus Art Gallery, a gallery focused on local artists from Alberta, Canada. She prefers not to use a website at the moment but you can view more of her work on www.lotus-gallery.com, through Instagram (@ellena.andreassen) or on Twitter (@eandreas1).

This is what she had to say about what she paints and why:

“Sky, water, trees and earth are all important elements in my paintings. I'm interested in exploring traditional landscape painting and also in creating work that shifts from the realm of the concrete and realistic to an investigation of the landscape in my memory.

I find inspiration everywhere in nature: a clump of grass, some branches by the water or a few ordinary trees by the side of the road.

I want to reflect my love of the natural world in my work and also to convey my impression of a particular moment in time.

I draw and paint outdoors; I complete the paintings in my studio, glazing with multiple layers of oil paint and usually relying on a limited palette of muted colours such as gray, ochre, white, green and blue.
