Downtown Edmonton was hoppin the weekend of October 6 to 8. The Up & Downtown Music Festival was a 3 day multi-genre music fest that had a great balance of local and traveling talent. With over 6000 attendees, this 5 year old organization has proven itself to be a great contributor to our local music scene. Not to mention that they packed several venues downtown to the rafters all weekend long! That's over 16 venues with over 60 performers!

We had the chance to

ask Brent Oliver, one of

the leading organizers a

few questions:

So, how do you feel the

festival went?

Overall, a smashing

success. With it being

year 5, we have learned a ton from past festivals, but we keep learning. A couple hiccups that we couldn't avoid, but overall I'm very very happy with UP+DT for 2017.

Do you have anything thay you would like to add or change for next year?

It's always a work in process and a chicken vs. egg scenario. We'd love to have huge bands, but we have to find the right venue. We don't book the super big venues (Rogers Place, Shaw) if we don't have the huge bands. So - we put out the call for acts through our site and through our agency contacts and see what we get back. And - I'm always on the look out for the next great break-out act.

When will you be doing your volunteer call

so people can

participate in

2018?

We're always

taking applications

to

[email protected]

but we really do \

the push over the

summertime.

How can bands apply?

Through our site! We normally open up in early Spring after our first round of headliner announcements.

Well we here at the Edmonton Muse can not wait for 2018! See you there!
