It's a brewing company with one delicious pilsner, nationwide influence, and an incredible team. Even though craft beer is their product, supporting culture and arts is also part of their identity. So how did a Toronto based company become The Business of the Month in The Edmonton Muse? Well, there are exceptions to every rule, and these guys have broken the barrier.

Steam Whistle started up in 2000 by three friends -Greg Taylor, Cam Heaps and Greg Cromwell. Three guys with a passion for craft beer and a dream to create a Pilsner that would compete with the best in the world.

They came to Edmonton 8 years ago right after Vancouver and Calgary. It was our city's vibrant arts and culture scene combined with its culinary scene that made Edmonton a very important market for them. Throwing their support, promotion and beer into local venues and in local artists hands, you will probably see Steam Whistle every where you go.

"Steam Whistle Brewing is an underdog in the global beer industry, so we support other up-and-comers like indie musicians, emerging visual artists and entrepreneurs. We've supported all kinds of notable events and organizations like UP+Downtown Festival, Sled Island, Golden West Music Festival, The Edmonton Music Awards, Yeg Music, Mile Zero Dance, Rapid Fire Theatre, Minbid, Vignettes, and many local shows."

So we have arts, culture and craft beer covered but did you also know that they are also strong endorsers of the cycling community?

"Steam Whistle has been supporting cycling culture for years now, starting with being the beer sponsor for the ALBERTA RIDE TO CONQUER CANCER since its inception 10 years ago. We greet all the riders and their supporters with a cold brew at the end of the finish line, their reward for the huge efforts in cycling 200km and raising funds for a great cause. In a decade, we've served THOUSANDS of beers to Albertans! We've also sponsored other events - Bike Courier challenge races, MTB and Downhill Cycling teams & races, Indoor Cyclocross Championships. But we've also supported non-competitive cycling as well with the installation of our Public Bike Repair Stations around Alberta. Each Bike Repair Station includes a Tool Stand and Tire Pump for DIY repairs, some with bike racks as well, located in high traffic areas. Edmonton's locations include: two (2) City of Edmonton, Bike Corrals on 104th Street (opposite Next Act Pub and outside Kelly's Pub), outside Sherlock Holmes (Campus) location 112th street, and outside Duggan's on 88th Ave. NW. We have 2 more planned for 2017 to be installed in the spring."

And then there came Ben – The Sheriff – Taylor. The man behind Steam Whistle for Edmonton and the reason why The Edmonton Muse is currently sponsored by them. Professional, reliable and engaging, you can count on him to be there for your event. Your patrons and performers will never go thirsty, and your event is guaranteed to be fun with the Sheriff in town!

"I have been with Steam Whistle for 10 years, starting as a tour guide and production worker at our brewery in Toronto before transitioning into a sales role. I was asked to move to Edmonton 2 years ago and I am happy to call it home! I was instantly impressed with the thriving music and arts scene and have done my best to be as involved as possible. I try to personally attend as many events as I can and show support for the amazing local talent."
