W: I can see that, weightlifting is most definitely an overlooked sport when compared to the more common sports. So, When did you get into olympic lifting and what got you into it and is there any other sports aside from olympic lifting that you’re currently involved with?

M: I have been completely submerged in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting for just under 4 years now. My coach Devin Clayton(current Strength and Conditioning coach of the Edmonton Eskimos) who is a long time friend of mine approached me with the idea of doing a weightlifting competition and within a month of programming I was completely hooked and have not looked back since. I played both hockey and football growing up, and "retired" from beer league hockey the year after beginning weight lifting.

W: You’ve been busy! So as a fellow coach myself, I’m curious. What is one of the most challenging things you face today when it comes to coaching your clients?

M:.The most challenging aspect of my job is that Olympic Weightlifting is HARD. People who tend to be naturally athletic and pick up sports easily will still struggle and if they can not get past the "ego" lifting, then they will inevitably fail. It takes flexibility, coordination, speed, timing, strength, and GUTS to do a heavy Snatch or Clean and Jerk.

W: So you’re also part of Free Fitness INC as well, can you tell us a little bit about that?

M: F.R.E.E. Fitness Inc. is a company of like minded personal trainers trying to help as many people as possible. We follow a "Pay How you Feel" payment model because we believe health should not have a set price. This model is incredibly unique because it allows our clients to pay us based on the quality of service we provide for them. Our mission is to provide as much VALUE as possible to our beloved clients and our fitness community.

W: What has been the most memorable part of your fitness thus far?

M: After working in a box gym for 7 years and almost getting out of the industry because of it, opening my company MaximumFit Strength and Conditioning has easily been the most memorable part of my fitness journey thus far, and I am extremely excited to help more people achieve their goals in 2017.

W: Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us here at the Edmonton Muse. Unfortunately it is time for us to end but before we do, if you could send a message out into the world, what would it be?

M: Friends don't let friends skip leg day.
