Artist of the Month

Shar Powell

"I'm a flailer! My personality comes out when I paint. It's on the walls, the floor, all over me and some even makes it onto the canvas!"

I was trying to find a way to describe Shar and her awesome personality. I couldn't find the words until she pretty much summed it up with her statement. She is all over the place. A creative, exciting, enthusiastic hurricane that comes into your world. But instead of being left in disaster, you are left with a new perspective, positive energies and a need to unleash your own form of creative ways.

Shar started painting in October of 2015. Which blew me away considering her talent. I am a fan of her use of colors and her lack of creative borders. From one piece to the next, you get to experience something different each time.

What is your muse or your biggest inspiration?

I would have to say music. It has always been a huge part of my life and it still is. My husband is an amazing musician, working

on his current album. My job

revolves around music. And I love it. It brings out my creativity.

I also love painting strong women, like Frida Kahlo. It's kind of empowering to do that.

Do you have a process? What kind of paint do you like to use?

I am not one of those people that can just go in to do a

painting and finish in an

hour. It takes time. I like to leave it out and work on it bit by bit. I wait for inspiration to strike and do it. I put my unfinished paintings in places that I can see them all the time so that I keep it fresh in my mind and am ready for when I figure out what I want to do with it.

I like to use acrylic paint. I like how bold the colors are and how easy it is to use. Especially since I paint in spurts, it makes it easier to set up and put away. Plus clean up.... remember when I said I was a flailer?

Why did you start painting?

Why not! Well, I have always had that need to do something. And painting just

became my next

thing.
