ENTERTAINER OF THE MONTH

BOB BEDDOW

It was 21 years ago when Bob's wife kicked him out the door and onto the stage to chase his dream of becoming a comedian. 21 years ago is when comedy was introduced to this man that is often mistaken for a high school guidance councellor or Hugh Laurie off of House. 21 years of Bob Beddow... and every single moment hilariously worth it.

Bob bases all of his material off of life experiences and events. And in reality, you have to have to be experienced in life yourself to really appreciate his humor. He has a lot of adventures to tell you; He has been involved in the military, air traffic control, sales, and that list goes on, which gives him lots of material to work with. He tells stories. Long ones.... but good ones. You go on a journey with Bob and get to know him on a personal level. (Really personal) By the time he is done, you would have sworn that you have

been freinds with him for years! Lars Callieou once said to Bob, "You walk on stage and you tell the people to go for a walk. Everyone gets up with you and goes for that walk for an hour and a half."

One of the best things about his show is that it was all about him. No religion, no politics, no heckling. He likes people to laugh at the comedy and not by being uncomfortable. It is comedy for everyone. With his favorite shows being in small towns or at fundraisers, the appeal behind his performance is quite versatile. He can play for a crowd of 2 to 2000, aged 20 to 80. Everyone would find the funny in it.

What is your muse? What inspires you?

My inspiration is comedy. I like to make people laugh because everyone likes to laugh. I want people to try and not be so angry all the time. Life is too short and nobody gets out alive.

What was your favorite show?

I have to pick one? Thats tough to answer because I take on shows based on if I am going to have a good time.

One show, I was talking about my vasectomy and all I could hear was some poor soul in the back saying "Oh no!" at the end of each sentence. He was obviously signed up for one.

Another show, I held someones baby for an hour so it wouldn't cry.

They are all good shows.

Is there any advice you could give to future comedians?

Comedians are very self conscious. There can be 100 people in the room laughing but you notice that one person in the crowd not enjoying it and that can make you question everything. You have to learn to pick your battles and come to terms with it. It took me 8 years to figure out who I was on stage. These things take time and you have to make sure you are having fun."
