The Edmonton Muse February 2018 | Page 9

WD: Amazing! What an accomplishment. So what is your muse? What inspires you to do what you do?

JP: What inspires me is the drive to be the best I can be, always. Even on the drowsy days and the days you just don’t feel like doing anything, my motivation comes from the love of this sport and the drive to push my body to the limits. To get the best out of myself everyday. That is when I am satisfied.

WD: What an inspiration! Unfortunately we must end but before we do, if you had a message you would like to send out into the world, what would it be?

JP: I would say to concentrate on the best that you can do. Never never give up, because you can and will surprise yourself with what you can do and achieve. But only if you put the effort, commitment, persistence and discipline into what you want achieve.

WD: Do you participate in any other sports?

JP: Yes, I love to golf haha. And I used to play a lot of other sports for my school and community. I played soccer, basketball volleyball and even some flag football. Most of that stopped when I got to high school.

WD: In the world of gymnasts, is there someone you idolize?

JP: There are a lot of gymnasts out there that are great and ones that I look up to for sure. One that comes to mind immediately is actually a past gymnast named Peter Vidmar. He is won two gold medals and one silver medal in the 1984 Olympic games. I have had the opportunity to become very good friends with him and his family. He has been a very good mentor for me along my career.

WD: What has been the most memorable part of your life as a gymnast so far?

JP: I think the most memorable things I have experienced so far in my career are the times I get to compete for Canada on the World stage are world Championships and World Cups. I will not forget the time that I won a bronze medal at a World Cup event held in Zibo, China in 2012.
