Entertainers of the Month

at the ACMA WEEKEND

(rED dEER)

Before we get into the meat and potatoes of this, yes, this is the Edmonton Muse but we are in Red Deer during this writing. It is the Association of Country Music in Alberta (ACMA) weekend. As such, a whole host of local Edmonton talent will be here meeting up with their country music Sisters and Brothers from across the entire province. Also, we are switching it up! Instead of having one featured Entertainer of the Month, for February, we have many!

Day One

Most of the Alberta country music scene started arriving early Saturday (Jan 27) morning. It’s a packed weekend and this writer’s first, but not last, attendance. The host hotel is and has been the Sheraton for the last couple of years. In the scheme of things, it’s the ideal spot. Red Deer is obviously very central to the province and the Sheraton has a country nightclub, Billy Bob’s, on site. It also has a hall big enough to host concerts and that’s a great spot for the ACMA Awards show to happen. I will not be able to mention everyone we spoke to in this article, but we will give a nod out when we can.

After checking in, it’s to register for the weekend. The ACMA is seven years old now and

though she recently resigned as Executive Director, Marcie Hanson is continuing to put together this event. It’s a task that is not easy, but she appears to have down to a science now. We pick up our Delegate passes and the swag bag that goes with it. The passes will get Industry and Corporate members into all the events this weekend. If you are a Fan member and anyone can get one of these memberships for just ten dollars, you will have to purchase tickets to the event you want to go to. Those tickets are a great deal, but I will mention them as we go one here.
