Notice the rationalizations. Acknowledge them. They seem to have much more power over us when they work in the background of our minds. Facing them head on allows us to recognize every time they come up. Then, you can work with your mind to overcome them.

Once you recognize them, try to have a solution for the rationalization beforehand. If you can anticipate it, then you can plan.

If you give in, that’s OK – we’re not perfect. But recognize that you’re giving into a rationalization, no matter what it is. Be aware of what you’re doing.

After giving in, see what the results are. Are you happier? Is your life better? Was it worth giving in to your mind’s discomfort? Will it better you tomorrow? A week from now? A year from now?

4.

Learn from those results. If you pushed through and you are happy about it, remember it. If you gave in to your rationalization and didn’t like the result, remember that too.
