Las Vegas, NV—Everyone loves a good road trip. Sometimes it’s the destination that’s the pièce de résistance; other times, it’s the vehicle of choice. And then there’s that road trip where all of the above come together for something special. That’s what the First Drive program for the sixth-generation 2016 Chevrolet Camaro coupe turned out to be—one epic road trip. It’s all part of Chevrolet’s ‘Find New Roads’ Camaro campaign that set out on 16 legs throughout the United States, managing to hit all 48 states over 270,000 kilometres to celebrate 48 years of the Camaro. I was lucky enough to receive the final leg of this journey that took us from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Phoenix, Arizona. My mission was simple, randomly select a Camaro key, and take it wherever I saw fit for a perfect road trip adventure, as long as it was returned at the Phoenix airport in 36 hours. That plan sounded great to me, and I took to Google Maps to see what fun, touristy spots could be found along the way. After a quick glance, I realized a certain entertainment wonderland that seemed not too far off—Las Vegas, Nevada. Sure, there are some other great spots to see such as Santa Fe, Sedona, the Grand Canyon and the Four Corners Monument, but Sin City was calling. There were two of the three engine options on hand, the 3.6-litre V6 that produces 335 hp and 284 lb.-ft. of torque and a fire-breathing 455-hp 6.2-litre V8 SS. The other option won’t be available until later, and that will come in a new 275-hp 2.0-litre turbo four. All of them are matched to a six-speed manual transmission and could be had with an optional eight-speed automatic tranny. thedriver.ca 11
