How to Safely Test Drive the Cloud Moving to the cloud can cause serious anxiety for those who don’t know what the future holds. To combat this concern, cloud leaders must foster trust by giving their team an environment to experiment safely. Build a Trusting Cloud Environment - The Minimum Viable Cloud The first step to enabling trust in your team is to give them an environment where they can experiment safely. At CTP, we call this a MVC (Minimum Viable Cloud). The MVC is a cloud sandbox with controls that enable innovation in a safe environment. When you establish an MVC, you give the team keys to the car, knowing that there are safety controls on the vehicle that prevent anyone from making costly mistakes. The MVC enables you, the cloud leader, to build trust over time. Your develop- ers want to play - need to play, with the new toys. Hopefully, you want them to play (and innovate) as well. Establishing a MVC is your way of building a safe playground where innovation can thrive. When your staff can see, hear, and feel the new cloud technologies, they become less anxious about their role and how it will change. Without hands-on experience, the technology is at best a dream and at worst a nightmare. Your team will need to have an environment that enables them to test drive and practice. They need evidence that you trust them, and the MVC is your demon- stration of trust. SPRING 2017 | THE DOPPLER | 51
