THE DOPPLER EFFECT
The phrase Fear No Cloud originated as a
marketing campaign from our HPE peers
across the pond. The purpose of this
campaign was to generate market aware-
ness for our global hybrid cloud services.
However, the more we heard this term,
the less it sounded like marketing speak
and more like a brilliant way to depict the
message we instill in our clients every
day: With the proper communication,
training and team enablement, you can
foster change advocates throughout your
organization, who will be critical to the
success of your cloud program.
Time and again, we find that the majority
of cloud initiatives inadequately invest
resources to address the most common
obstacle: people’s natural response to
resist, and even obstruct, technology and
process change. At the root of this resis-
tance lies fear: fear of job loss; fear of
steep learning curves; fear of losing one’s
career identity; fear of the unknown; and
fear of failure. This fear is only natural
given the disruptive nature of the cloud.
This realization isn’t new. In our spring
2017 edition, Navigating the Cloud’s Most
Challenging Blocker: Your People, we dis-
cussed how to decrease team anxiety
during times of change. And in our winter
2018 edition, The Cloud’s Latest Dirty Lit-
tle Secret, we looked at how the automa-
tion in hyperscale cloud platforms can
render a large percentage of the opera-
tional staff unnecessary, and therefore
suddenly at risk of workforce reduction.
In this edition, we narrow our focus to
the most important part of your cloud
program: your people; and how to allevi-
ate their common fears, and support
them through continuous enablement. To
succeed in the cloud game, you must
attract and retain the best people in your
industry. In fact, investing in a strategic
talent enablement program will pay divi-
dends now and well into the future.
Fear No Cloud is more than just a bold slo-
gan; it is a call to action. Starting on page
54, we discuss the fundamental compo-
nents of communication, training and
team enablement critical to your success.
From the front line IT warriors who battle
for innovation, to the unsung heroes con-
sistently behind the scenes of daily suc-
cesses, understanding and capitalizing
on the power of your people will be key to
your cloud journey.
Your cloud program will not run itself.
But give your team the resources they
need, and success will follow.
